FROM THE GUILD FAMILY
DECEMBER 2008, HONOLULU, HAWAII
Transformation is the theme of 2008 for so many of us. It seems like there are changes all around. We have elected a new administration, our portfolios have been transformed by a shrinking economy, and the Air Force has been going through a process of transformation during 2008, with lots of changes in mission and manpower. The Guild family has been going through transformation as well. In April, Jeff decided to transform into a civilian, so in June of 2009 he will retire from the Air Force after nearly twenty-five years of active service to God and Country.
Jeff has been busy traveling as he visits the nine Air Force bases of the Pacific Command, clocking many hours of seat time. He will be serving as a pastor upon retirement and looks forward to new challenges. Gail is busy transforming into civilian life with lots of preparation for the move to Tampa Florida. Her anticipation includes lots of sight-seeing in Hawaii, and trips to the thrift shop in an attempt to lighten the load.
Daughter Anna and husband Kevin are in Tacoma, Washington. Kevin separated from the Army this year and is working in the construction trade, while Anna continues as a veterinary tech at an animal hospital. She enjoys the work because she loves the animals, but says it can be very hard dealing with people.
Aaron is transforming into a scholar as he studies computers and internet technology. He serves as the webmaster for Hawaii’s Gifted Association, a non-profit which raises scholarships for gifted students living on these islands.
Chris is a Senior Airman in the Kansas Air National Guard, deployed to Kyrgyzstan for six months. He is an AF Services troop, currently working in the marketing department. We are proud of his service to our country.
Gail’s father Harry, who is 90 years old, has come to live with us in Hawaii. It was a long trip for him to make from Florida, but he did well and we enjoy having an extended family.
During the year 2008 we lost three great women of our family. Gail’s mother Millie died in May, followed by Jeff’s Aunt Edith in September and his Aunt Kay in November.
2008 has been a year of transformation and 2009 will see even more changes come to the Guild family. It is good to be going home after twenty-five years. It has been as one day. And in one day, you have seen all the world. Yes and there is much that is sacred and beautiful. But nothing as beautiful as a man’s own world. (Homer). The greatest transformation of all has been the one which comes from knowing the Christ who came to us in human form on the first Christmas and will come again to transform us into his image. You, our family and friends, have been a blessing to us over the years. Merry Christmas, and may God bless you richly in the new year. .
